Your Workers' Compensation Benefits

There are five basic benefits:

  1. Vocational Rehabilitation:
    • If your doctor says your permanent disability prevents you from returning to your job, you may be entitled to assistance in finding another job. While you are participating in vocational rehabilitation, you will receive a partial income substitute which is similar to Temporary Disability, although the Weeks amount may be less.
    • A valid offer of modified or alternate work from your employer may replace your right to these benefits.

  2. Permanent Partial Disability Award
    • If you have a partial permanent disability, you may be eligible for a financial award as compensation for your disability.
    • Your disability award will be determined by physicians examining you to find the extent and nature of your disability limitations.
    • The amount of your disability award is generally decided at a hearing at the Ohio Workers' Compensation Bureau.

How Can An Attorney Help You In A Workers' Compensation Case?

Ohio employers generally hire attorneys or representatives to defend themselves against Workers' Compensation claims filed at the Ohio Workers' Compensation Bureau. The employers' representatives defend employers against a large volume of employee Workers' Compensation claims on a weekly basis.

Due to the complexities of the Workers' Compensation Bureau's rules and procedures, an injured worker should consider employing an attorney in any contested case scheduled for a hearing at the Workers' Compensation Bureau. An attorney who is experienced in handling Workers' Compensation cases can give an injured worker advice about their case and can make sure that the worker receives all of the Workers' Compensation benefits to which the worker is legally entitled.
